Illustrator and publisher, J.L. Shively, began his art career at the age of fourteen, copying old master paintings with astonishing precision. As an adult, he made his living for a time as a portrait artist, then he discovered he had an aptitude for painting seascapes. He was determined to be the world’s greatest seascape painter, but God had other plans for his art and his ego. The young artist soon realized that he found more satisfaction painting for the Lord.
At the same time, his wife, author, H.D. Shively, began immersing herself in God’s word.
Their circumstances changed abruptly after a failed business venture rendered them homeless. Soon the couple’s only home became an aging travel trailer. God turned their misfortune into a blessing and the couple began doing art shows as a ministry sharing J.L.’s paintings of Jesus in secular events across the country.
The couple’s experiences with homelessness changed the artist’s direction and he began illustrating, “The Least of These.” His drawings of street people and the needy soon began complementing the gospel message at their outreaches. Eventually J.L. began sharing his art and his testimony in churches from California to New England.
Author, H.D. Shively began expressing her love for God and His word through prose and short stories. Then the author received an email that changed the direction of her writing ministry. She was the recipient of a sixteen page email from a Muslim who was accusing Christians of being polytheists because of the Trinity doctrine. Disturbed by the Muslim’s misunderstandings about Christianity, H.D. began a two year journey through the scriptures, determined to learn how to teach the Trinity from the word of God alone. The result was her first book, “Understanding the Trinity from the Scriptures - It’s all about God’s Love for You.”
Encouraged by the response to the book by laymen and theologians alike, the author began a second book, an expository journey into the mysteries of the book of Revelation. This book was also well received. From that point on her pen found the greatest satisfaction in exploring God’s word and sharing it with others. The author firmly attributes any insight and understanding she may have expressed in her books as being solely a gift from the Lord.
Now retired from the highways and living over thirty-five years in campers, the Shively’s are sharing the results of their many years in ministry, online, in the hopes of reaching many more with the life giving gospel of the Lord Jesus, the Messiah.
The Shively’s ministry is non-denominational, Bible based and Christ-centered.
